EMS Week 2008 (May 18-24)

The theme for the 2008 Emergency Medical Services week if “Your Life Is Our Mission,” which underscores the commitment and dedication of the 750,000 EMS providers who serve their communities.

Throughout National Emergency Medical Service Week (May 18-24), LifeNet will hold activities honoring paramedics, emergency medical technicians, first responders, firefighters and law enforcement. This year LifeNet is please to announce the LifeNet Stars of Life:

Bobby Edwards – Texarkana Division
Todd Aitken – Hot Springs Division
Jason Castleberry – LifeNet Air, Texarkana
Vicki Henderson – Texarkana Division
Tray Pickering – Hot Springs Division

In addition, we are please to announce Mary Harkness of Hot Springs and Rena Suiter of Texarkana were chosen to represent LifeNet in Washington D.C. at the American Ambulance Association Stars of Life Celebration held May 4 – 8. They were among one hundred and eight Stars of Life representing 33 states to ascend Capitol Hill for a total of 168 meetings with members of Congress. As a result of the meetings, one Senator and two Representatives have already been added as cosponsors of the Medicare Ambulance Payment Extension Act and two Representatives have been added as cosponsors of the Public Safety Officer Death Benefit bill. In the coming weeks, many more Senators and Representatives are expected to be added as cosponsors to these bills as a result of meetings with the Stars of Life. The Stars of Life also generated additional support for ambulance fuel tax relief and homeland security funding targeted to EMS providers.

While the focus of the Stars of Life program is to recognize those EMS professionals who exemplify what is best about the EMS field, the mere presence of the Stars of Life on Capitol Hill helps Congress team firsthand the vital role of EMS in our communities. The Stars of Life tell their story as to why they were selected as Stars and describe for members of Congress the job they do everyday. The Stars of Life are the face of ambulance service operations not only around the country but also Capitol Hill. Click to See More....

LifeNet Achieves CAAS Accreditation

For our compliance with the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) national standards of excellence, LifeNet has received national accreditation three times. The Commission is a non-profit organization established to encourage and promote quality patient care in America ’s medical transportation system. The CAAS standards address the delivery of patient care, a service’s operational components, and its relationships with other agencies, the general public, and the local medical community.

LifeNet first became accredited in 2000 becoming one of the first ambulance services in Arkansas and the 80th ambulance service in the country to successfully complete the voluntary review process. This process included completion of a comprehensive application and an on-site review by national experts in emergency medical services.
